The SACS Under-15A team scored a memorable victory on the hallowed Paarl Gim A-field in the early game on Saturday morning. With heavy dew on the thick grass handling proved difficult and it came down to blood and guts.

The SACS team soaked up heavy pressure early on but resolute defence kept Gim out for the first five minutes Playing to much rugby in their own half and conceding a needless turnover SACS were duly punished as Gim whipped the ball wide and scored in the corner. The conversion was missed.

Crucially though the SACS pack began to gain the ascendancy in the set pieces and this lifted the confidence of the entire team. The game wore on and SACS gained some good field position on occasion but missed lineouts and dropped passed meant they were unable to maintain the pressure and continuity.

Going into the second half the game was on a knife’s edge but the SACS boys believed that they could do it and they duly scored after s series of tap penalties near the Gim tryline. Yushrick Rossier eventually crashing over. Justin Thomas fluffed the conversion to leave a nailing biting final few minutes.

After spurning a number of kickable penalties early on Gim had a kick a posts to go ahead. They missed and with the clock winding down SACS managed to get back into the Gim 22-metre area. Into injury time referee Piet Koen saw a ruck infringement and penalised the hosts. Justin Thomas lined up the final kick as the SACS players and supporters closed their eyes in anticipation. Cool as ever Justin slotted the kick. Mr. Koen blew the final whistle and mayhem ensued as the SACS boys enjoyed the moment.
