At 10h30 on Saturday the 30th the Boland Landbou flyhalf kicked off to the pumped up SACS U14A rugby team.  We started off on all cylinders, but unfortunately still lost 24-0.

In the first half we played some absolutely brilliant defensive rugby conceding only one try – unconverted.  For the first time in a while we had got stuck in, the second we caught the ball.

Although we were caught off guard in our 22m, we took them by surprise and hit them hard in the scrum.  Boland was definitely not expecting this and were pushed off the ball.  We managed to put together 10 minutes of some very good defensive rugby.

Eventually their wing scored in the corner although he seemed to have stepped over the touchline. Our scrumming had definitely turned around from previous games, and we scrummed very well.  Our line outs on the other hand were another story.  Even though they only had one jumper he had managed to steal and keep every throw, except for one.

At half time, we felt good that we had only conceded five points.  Our coach congratulated us on our big tackles but focused mainly on our line outs, which were weak.  After the team talk we walked out ready for the second half. Boland must have had a stern talking to because they came back at us hard.  Their confidence was up and it seemed they were determined to stay in our 22m no matter what we did.  Unfortunately for us this resulted in seven points in their favour.

We were trapped in our 22m with another 10 minutes to go.  We conceded a penalty on our line and the Boland loosehead prop came charging over to score – converted.  We kicked off and managed to stay in their half for a while.  Unfortunately Boland turned the ball over and their flyhalf hoofed the ball downfield.

Our wing slipped while trying to step is opponent and lost the ball.  We got back as fast as possible and managed to stop their wing from scoring a try, this resulted in a maul.  While we tried to counter-maul their flank broke off and scored without us even realising. Bringing the final score to 24-0.
