The U16A team had a morale boosting 26-3 win over Duineveld from Upington at the Wynberg Boy’s High Rugby Festival over the long weekend. Coming off a poor start to the season against Stellenberg we ran in four nice tries.

On the positive side we showed good shape on defence in the first half and scrummed well throughout. We put together some nice passages of play and the support play was excellent.

Negatives were our lineouts and the loss of a few balls in contact as players found themselves holding the ball in one hand. Our execution still has to improve as we ran across the field too much and were a bit narrow in our attack at times.

That said is was a very worthwhile outing in many respects on what was a very hot autumn day. The penalty count against us seems to indicate that we are struggling to adapt to the new interpretation at the breakdown and that is another area we have to work on before facing Rondebosch this Saturday.

Tries: Chris Smith, Luke van der Smit, Cameron Calder and Suwi Chibale

Conversion: Smith (3)
