13a vs RBPS
On Saturday we played a “determined to win,” Rondebosch side. We knew that we were going to have to fight for the win, because we beat them by a narrow margin in the first term. We arrived early and got focused in our warm-up and we knew that this would help us during the match. We put on our unique jerseys and ran proudly onto the field.
We kicked off playing towards the school in a northerly direction. We got a great start by playing the best rugby since the start of the season. In the first minute, Thomas Doyle broke away and got tackled but miraculously, Ian Patterson “picked and went” and scored the first try of the match. This put us on the board with 5 points. We put them in their half for 10 minutes but they came back hard and put us on our line. With good rucking by the forwards, we cleared it. Rondebosch was getting better by the minute. We got some excellent runs by the back line and this resulted in another try by Ian Patterson. The half ended at 10-0.
We got an inspiring talk by Mr Marshall and ran back onto the field.
We started off strong because of Mr Marshall’s team talk and superb encouragement. We were able to get the ball over the line, with a well-deserved try by Oliver Stewert. The score was now 17-0. This got us pumped and Matthew Venier scored a break-away try under the poles. The score read 24-0. They came back strong with a good attack and scored their first, but only try. It was not converted. We came back firing with another try by Matthew Venier. The game ended at a superb score of 31-5.
Well done to the boys. Special mentions must go to Matthew Venier, Luke D’Aguair, Ian Patterson and Sebastian Williams.
