13a vs WPPS
On Saturday we played against Western Province Prep School. It was a windy day and we were planning to use it to our advantage. We had unfortunately lost numerous players due to illness and injury, but that was not going to stop us giving 150%. We had a tense warm-up in our blue practice jerseys and and got mentally and physically ready for the game. We got into our Match jerseys and our two coaches gave us an enthusiastic, motivational speech.
We won the toss and we kicked off into the howling north wind. We got to a slow start but built up good momentum and with a great team performance, Christopher McHardy scored our first try under the poles. It was unfortunately not converted. We kicked off and defended well but tackles slipped and one of their players broke the line. Luckily, Matthew Venier, with lots of speed, caught him on our 5m line. It was a turnover and Matthew Venier got the ball again and sped down the touchline and scored our second try under the poles. It was converted, putting us at a comfortable lead of 12-0.
Minutes before the end of the first half they got a scrum on our 5m line. They were able to score their first try which was converted, ending the half at 12-7.
We were not going to give up and were going to give it our best in the second half. Now we were kicking with the wind. We started off in a strong manner, having a lot of possession and were rewarded with a try by Matthew. It was converted, 19-7 to Sacs. We kept possession and were able to score a try off a scrum. It was converted. Changes were made in the team and we were pumped to end the game on a good note. The backline swung the ball down the line and we were able to score the last try of the game. The game ended at 31-7. Well done to the team.
Special mention must go to go to Matthew Venier, Ben Hartley and James Paul.
