13b vs RBPS
Saturday 17 May. We arrived at Rondebosch awaiting a grueling, tough match.
We warmed up slowly with the gameplay of taking it in with the forwards and then playing it out wide. The playing field was wide and there was a strong breeze blowing across the width of the field.
We kicked off with our backs to the sun and ready to play. We started off poorly without much intensity and we were put on the back foot. After a good number of phases, Rondebosch crossed the try line and scored between the poles (conversion successful). We came back strong and ready to fix our mistakes and managed to put one behind the opposition through Ben Hartley. Rondebosch came out guns blazing and got to our 5-metre line. With a good counter ruck we turned over possession and marched down the pitch into the opposing 22. Through scrappy play the opposing team got the ball, only for seconds, as Ben Hartley intercepted the ball to later score in the corner. Bosch came out of the starting blocks harder than ever and scored again on the half-time whistle.
HALF-TIME score = Sacs 10/Bosch 12.
After a poor first half we were set on turning the tides of the game. The opposition wanted the win more and scored again in the corner. We tried our best and were on the front foot heading towards the try line. Bosch turned over possession yet again and converted this opportunity into points. Now after a little pep talk we came out more energized than ever and with extreme focus we started to finally dominate the game. We earned ourselves a penalty and from a quick tap I managed to cross the line and score. We were now dominating every part of the game and in the final minutes Ben Hartley, yet again, breached the whitewash to hand us the lead. With sigh of relief we new we could win the game. Through scrappy play the opposing team knocked the ball on to end play.
FULL-TIME score = SACS 20/Rondebosch 17
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to the team, for picking ourselves up and then to come back from behind and win the game. Star performances to mention are: Julian Dower for putting his body on the line in the second half and Ben Hartley who scored a hat trick as a lock. This wouldn’t have been possible without the whole team’s spirit, commitment and energy in the second half.
