15c vs Stellenberg

In 1stXV MATCH REPORTS, High School, Other Teams

This was our first match of the season against a team from behind the “Boerewors curtain”!

Despite typical Newlands winter conditions, the howling wind and rain cleared up for a while when our game started.  From the start Stellenberg proved to be tough opposition, not allowing us to let our structured play flow freely.

About 10 minutes into the match, we were awarded a penalty close to the poles and our fly half vice captain, Michael Liebenberg, made no mistake in converting to give us the much needed 3 points lead. Shortly afterwards, we were awarded a scrum in a good attacking position, 10 metres from the opposition goal area. Our No.8, Michael Hoyle, took it from the back and powered his way over. Half time: SACS-10 Stellenberg-0

We knew Stellenberg were going to come out all guns blazing in the second half and we were up for the challenge. We put in some big tackles, made some good runs, and our defence held well. Our handling and concentration could have been better, but we managed to fend them off. End Result: SACS-10 Stellenberg-0

I think that we played well in the first half but we definitely need to up our game to beat a strong Paul Roos side this coming Saturday.

Captain
