13a vs Primrose

In 13A, 1stXV MATCH REPORTS, Junior School

It was extremely windy and cold as we arrived for our match against Primrose.  We got our blue practice jerseys on and prepared for the tense warm-up.  We practised our moves to the “T” as we knew the wind would affect our game plan.  We had unfortunately lost our 1st centre to illness, but with great organisational skills from our coaches, a plan was made.  We proudly put on our U13A match jerseys and got ready for the next hour of our lives.  We ran onto the field with utmost concentration, ready to face our large, strong opponents.

We lost the toss and kicked off with the strong wind at our backs.  We got off to a slow start as the ball did summersaults in the strong wind as we passed it down the backline.  They got a turn over and with poor defence by our team, they scored the first try of the match. Luckily it was not converted.  We were crushed that they had scored the first try but we persisted and within ten minutes we responded with a try.  The conversion was at a terrible angle and it was not converted.  This great try got our confidence up and we were able to score another try under the poles.  This was converted.  They kicked off and within the next phase, Luke D’Aguiar cleared the ball down the field.  With great speed, Matthew Venier charged their clearance kick and scored the last try of the half.  It was converted and the score was 19-5.

We were playing without the wind in this half which made our passing a little easier.  We got off to a defensive start but thanks to our forwards we scored a try.  It was not converted.  They came back strong and scored, not converted.  The long and hard game ended at 24-10.

Well done to the boys.  Special mentions go to Matthew Venier and Luke D’Aguiar.
