13a vs WPPS Match Report
On Saturday we played against a strong Wet Pups team. We did an intense warm-up and then put our jerseys on. It was a fairly windy day. We ran enthusiastically onto the field, ready for battle.
We lost the toss and received, playing with the wind, on a fairly small field. We started off on a strong note, with good rucking, but with a couple of handling errors, which resulted in numerous scrums.
We got a lineout and mauled it back 20 meters, unfortunately not managing to get the ball over the try line. 9 Minutes into the game, Sacs broke away and Thomas Doyle scored the first try which was converted by
Matthew Venier. This got us off to a good start and within the next few minutes Matthew Venier scored the next try which was not converted.
Both Thomas Theron and Ian Patterson had two fabulous runs, with one conversion, which brought our total up by another 12 points. The half ended with a score of 24-0 to Sacs.
At half time, both coaches gave us some good tips and we started off the second half, hoping to double our points. Wet Pups came back with a strong attack and managed to score their first try of the match, which was not converted. We were determined not to concede any more points and Matthew Hayes took a phenomenal interception, which put us back onto the board with another try and conversion added to our score.
We got back into our groove and with 5 minutes remaining, we beared it up to their 5 meter and Thomas Brewer was able to score another try, which was not converted.
The final whistle blew, resulting in a score of 36-5 to Sacs.
Well done on a good game of Rugby. Let’s keep our momentum up for Worcester on Tuesday.
