16a vs Wynberg

In 1stXV MATCH REPORTS, High School, Other Teams

The boys were up for this game. It would be the “triple crown” for both teams. Wynberg had the better start, when we failed to clear our lines and the kick was charged down by the Wynberg scrumhalf. This put them 5 nil ahead after the first 3 minutes. Wynberg’s game plan was to keep us pinned in our half an then bank on their strength, which was the maul, get them over the line. SACS was excellent in the maul defence and Wynberg soon realised that they would have their work cut out for them. SACS had some crucial handling errors which certainly hampered our attack. A quick tap from the rare penalties we received, resulted in catching Wynberg napping out wide and Thomas Waterkeyn touched down to bring the game into a one point margin at 12-13. But Wynberg would have the last say through a set piece and our poor defence at first receiver. Wynberg winning 12-20. A great contest and we look forward to the return fixture at home.
