We started off very well with a great try from a quick tap and Luca Brigham touching down behind the poles with the ref on hand to award the try, only to be told by a spectator that he had run onto the dead ball line! So the try was disallowed. The team bounced back by with an unconverted try in the corner from left wing Luca Brigham. So with a 5 – 0 lead we defended well. But errors on attack started to slip into our play. After conceding a penalty, the score was 5-3 in our favour. We carried the ball too much without perhaps distributing past first or second receiver, which sometimes resulted in turnover ball as we were not working hard enough at the breakdown.  Paul Roos scored from a handling error in our 22m area, so a soft try under pressure. Paul Roos second try came from their flyhalf running a simple straight line and we missed the tackle on him to score next to the poles. At 8 – 13 with 10 minutes remaining, it was all to play for to get the result. But simple errors let us down and allowed them to counter attack. There is only so much defending one can do, before the pressure gets too much. After a penalty and a converted try for them, the final score was 8-23. Positives were again our defence around the fringes. But basic errors cost us dearly and something we need to work on in our preparations for the Wynberg fixture on 20 June.
